About this place
If you’re choosing a dish to start with at Dining Kaoru, yellowtail shabu-shabu is an obvious contender. The menu lists servings for one person and 2 people, with a price of 1,100 yen. One visitor recalls asking for a recommendation and ordering the single serving, which looked closer to enough for 2 people. That is one diner’s impression of the portion, but it may help when deciding how much hot pot to order.
For a taste of several kinds of fish, nigiri sushi is available one piece at a time. Bonito is 280 yen, lean tuna 200 yen and marinated tuna 180 yen. The visitor mentioned above ordered bonito and tuna with modestly sized rice portions, suggesting one way to pair sushi with the hot pot. The single-piece selection also includes salmon, yellowtail, simmered conger eel and eel, as well as seared alfonsino and seared beef. Try a few varieties, or add a two-piece pressed sushi if you’d like to make the meal more substantial.
Fish dishes also include Spanish mackerel grilled with Saikyo miso, silver salmon and half a portion of split-open hokke. One customer was struck by the thickness of the pike conger and enjoyed it with sake. Pike conger does not appear on the listed menu, so this is one visitor’s observation to bear in mind when considering a dinner centred on fish and drinks. There are other small dishes, too: oden options include daikon for 150 yen, beef tendon for 350 yen and konjac for 100 yen. You could begin with a few small plates before moving on to sushi or grilled fish.
A medium draft beer is 480 yen, while lemon sour and lime sour, among other sours, are 450 yen. Visitors have also mentioned enjoying sake. Whether fish is the focus or you’re grazing on oden and other small dishes, there are plenty of food options to pair with a drink.
